The garden

I planted the first of many vegetable plants this weekend.  Let's see, we have 4 tomato plants, 2 squash, 1 pepper, and 1 cucumber.  I looked everywhere for a zucchini, but I wasn't able to find any.  There is a plant festival at the farmer's market this weekend.  Hopefully they will have some, as well as a variety of other vegetable plants.  I am still deciding on the herbs that I would like to plant.  Decisions, decisions.  

Take a look at the little lettuce sprouts.  I am still crossing my fingers that they will develop into at least little mini heads of romaine. We'll just have to wait and see!

 

School Carnival

This has been a whirlwind of a week. Thursday was spent taking 125 fifth graders to the Aquarium and CNN building in Atlanta. Friday was spent taking the same fifth graders to Roper Mountain all day. Finally, Friday afternoon was spent with my family at my school's spring carnival. What a week!

At the carnival, there was the same blow up slide that they had for Friday Night Jazz downtown. Taylor immediately recognized it and wanted to take it over. I have to admit, it is a lot of fun. I looked forward to going on it each time with him. Hmmmm....I wonder what we can do today that will top our inflatable slide experience?

A fantastic spring weekend

Wow! This weekend absolutely flew by. We were so active that it made the time slip by even faster. We started the weekend off by meeting the Dockery's downtown for Friday Night Jazz. Who knew that they would have a huge bounce house and inflatable slide right on Main Street that Taylor would adore?! We could have spent the entire weekend there and Taylor would have been content. We finished off the evening by enjoying some hotdogs and hamburgers curbside on Main Street. What fun!

Saturday was spent working outside in the yard. We had some beds to spruce up and some other yard work that needed to be complete. We still have a lot of work to do in the back yard, but we are making progress. My lettuce seeds are sprouting, and I am beginning to see the start of some lettuce. I now realize that I planted these seeds way too late. Who knows if they will produce like they should, but now I know better for next year's garden. Live and learn, right? After a lot of work and a quick bite at a local sub shop, we made our usual trip to the playground. It just never gets old for any of us. We just love it there! I hope that you all enjoyed a nice weekend outside as well!

How did this not make it on the blog last year?

I was going through some pictures of Taylor at this time last year. I ran across this hilarious video of him drinking from a cup. You have to watch it and enjoy a good laugh!

Creativity

I just have to showcase a few of the creative people and their projects that are in my life. First of all, my husband has an amazing talent that he is quite shy to show off. His ability to paint is incredible. He never ceases to amaze me with the things that he is able to paint in just a few hours. The tomato painting is his newest piece. If you look closely, you can see the pepper that he recently painted as well. Keep it up, Dave- I have visions of my house filled with artwork by Fall!

Now, I simply have to point out the eggs that my mom created for Easter place cards as well as the outfits that she has made for Taylor (see the Easter pictures in the previous post) and the cake that Kelly did for AnnaKate's birthday. Simply amazing. You all are such an inspiration. You get my creative juices flowing!

An "Egg"cellent Easter!

What a fabulous Easter day! The weather couldn't have been better for a great church service and an incredibly fun Easter egg hunt and lunch at Mimi and Papa's house. Taylor started the day by waking up in such a great mood. He was thrilled to see his "frog" Easter basket, bunny, and Handy Manny coloring book on the coffee table in the den. He had such a cute look on his face when he realized that it was for him!

After church, we headed over to Mimi and Papa's house. It was a treat to have my grandmother and Uncle David came from Spartanburg to join us for Easter lunch. Mimi, you outdid yourself. Lunch (and especially dessert) was fantastic! Before lunch, we hid eggs for Taylor in the backyard. Mimi and Papa have the perfect yard for an excellent egg hunt. Taylor got more into it that I thought he would. I really expected him to not care much for it. However, he rose above my expectations and became obsessed with finding eggs. He would find one egg, throw it in his basket, and then say "more eggs!" When he would find two or three in a row, he would exclaim, "I did it!" How cute!! He was moving so fast that it was hard to get a still shot of him. We tried, and a few turned out. I hope that you and your family had a Happy Easter as well!

Two sous-chefs

I had the absolute privilege of keeping Emily for a few hours on Wednesday while Sarah attended an important meeting. Taylor and Emily played really well together. We built towers, read books, danced to music, watched a little Tigger and Pooh, played with trucks and bugs (you're a good sport, Emily), and we made Starbucks pumpkin scones. I have all of this canned pumpkin that I got at the Sav-Mor sidewalk sale, and I realized that I really needed to start using it. I did a little internet searching and came up with this easy and FABULOUS recipe. They were amazing. Emily ate two. Taylor ate zero- of course he wouldn't try it. Oh well, more for us! If you are a fan of pumpkin and spice, I highly recommend that you put your apron on and get in the kitchen. You may need a few sous-chefs like I had. They were incredibly vital in helping me glaze each scone. We even had "Bubba" and "Mommy Sue" help (you can see them a little in the pictures below). We need to have Emily over more often so that we can bake new creations!

Taylor's 2nd Birthday Party

I can't believe that it has taken me almost a week to publish these pictures! Where has the time gone? I guess with it being the week before Spring Break and having a house full of sick people (we all have a sinus infection or terrible cold) it may be somewhat understandable that I am just now getting around to blogging!

We had a wonderful day last Sunday celebrating with a few close friends and family. The day turned out to be gorgeous, and most importantly, Taylor had a blast! It was a truck filled birthday. We had truck decorations, truck toys, truck presents, and a truck cake. Trucks, trucks, and more trucks! As usual, the kids were all moving so quickly that it was hard to get any shots of them together. Oh well, I tried! I was, however, able to get individual shots of all the children. Thanks everyone for making it such a fun party (even though it was six weeks late)!
